The Green River Formation in SW Wyoming has been excavated for 150 years for the wealth of well preserved fossils found here. During the early Eocene, 50 million years ago, the area had a sub-tropical climate with palm trees, early mammals, and lakes that supported a diverse population of fishes, crayfish and stingrays. Several species of birds inhabited the skies, feeding on the multitudes of insects.

Today, the area is a semi-desert with sagebrush, sand and wind. Bring your own water and shade!!!
